Knicks' Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving Recruitment Videos Revealed by Pablo Torre
Even more New York Knicks recruiting videos designed to entice superstar free agents to sign with the team have been uncovered by Pablo Torre.
On the latest episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out, Torre revealed the video the Knicks put together in the summer of 2019 when they were trying to land Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving.

The Leonard video makes up the bulk of the episode. It features former Saturday Night Live star Jay Pharoah playing the two-time NBA Finals MVP. Other members of the SNL cast and famous Knicks fans are also featured, including Ben Stiller, Kenan Thompson and Michael Che.
Irving's recruitment video (starts at 26:40 mark) is framed as a mixtape, starting with legendary New York basketball players explaining why he is a perfect fit for the city before fast-forwarding to a made-up version of the city in 2027 where New Yorkers are naming their children after him.
The Knicks made Leonard a high priority when he became a free agent after the 2018-19 season. Reporting at the time said they were "expected to push hard" to bring him to the Big Apple.
There is no indication the Knicks ever got close to making Leonard a formal offer, let alone actually signing him. They did have a meeting set up, but team management canceled it citing the "logistics" involved because it was going to happen after he met with the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers.
Irving at one point at least expressed interest in playing for the Knicks. He cited a "strong interest" in them in October 2018 when he was still with the Boston Celtics, but that was a point when he affirmed his commitment to staying in Boston.
Things changed dramatically between Irving and the Celtics over the course of the 2018-19 season, opening the door for the Knicks to get involved. Things didn't pan out because Irving joined Kevin Durant on the other New York team in free agency, the Brooklyn Nets.
Speaking of Durant, the Knicks also tried to pitch him as a free agent in the summer of 2019. Torre previously revealed their recruitment to him involved hiring the Wu-Tang Clan to write an original song and music video.
There have now been four recruiting videos from the Knicks to free agents that Torre has uncovered. In addition to Leonard, Irving and Durant, he also found the video the Knicks put together for LeBron James in the summer of 2010.
Things might be different if the Knicks were to pitch a marquee free agent now that they look like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. They are coming off back-to-back 50-win seasons, reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season and are currently second in the East with a 19-7 record after capturing their first NBA Cup title.
