AP College Basketball Poll 2025 Week 7 Rankings Released with Top Risers and Fallers

Joseph ZuckerDec 15, 2025

Nebraska climbed eight spots in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after upsetting Illinois and setting a program record with an 11-0 start.

The Cornhuskers are the highest they've been in the AP poll (No. 15) since the 1990-91 season.

Florida, on the other hand, continues to slide after splitting its two games last week. The Gators went from 18th to 23rd in the new poll.

The Gators already have as many losses (four) as they suffered across the entirety of the 2024-25 season. That requires some additional context, though.

Florida has come up short against three teams ranked in the Top Five (Arizona, Duke and UConn) by a combined 11 points. The other defeat was an upset to unranked TCU, which was also by single digits.

In a few months, Todd Golden's squad could look a lot different than it is now since the toughest challenges on the schedule might already be over.

"As I just told the guys in the locker room, we're never gonna be upset about a double-digit victory against a very respectable team in George Washington," he told reporters following Saturday's 80-70 win. "So, we're happy about that, but there's a lot of areas that we gotta continue to improve, and we're not where we need to be yet."

Arizona, on the other hand, has used a difficult non-conference slate to make a strong impression. The Wildcats blew out Alabama by 21 points on Saturday, which followed an equally dominant win over Auburn in the previous week.

Freshman guard Brayden Burries had a game-high 28 points and hit five three-pointers against the Crimson Tide. Junior center Motiejus Krivas (14 points and 14 rebounds) earned his first double-double of the year. With 10 points and five steals, freshman forward Ivan Kharchenkov was a nuisance on both ends of the floor.

Head coach Tommy Lloyd will want to keep his players grounded, especially as Arizona finishes up the month with what should be straightforward matchups against Abilene Christian, San Diego State, Bethune-Cookman and South Dakota State. But fans in Tucson are already dreaming big about the NCAA tournament.

The same can be said of the Cornhuskers faithful in Lincoln.

Nebraska cruised past Wisconsin 90-60 to open Big Ten play and then hit the road to take down Illinois 83-80 in Champaign. Jamarques Lawrence drilled a three-pointer with just 0.2 seconds on the clock to send Fighting Illini fans home disappointed.

The Cornhuskers haven't had to navigate a difficult schedule, hence them only ranking 23rd despite what was then a 9-0 record. AP voters were bound to grade them differently after a pair of big conference wins.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg doesn't want his team to take its foot off the gas.

"So, we'll see how we respond. We need a great week of prep," he told reporters after the Illinois game. "The last time we played North Dakota in the getaway game before the break, I think we were down 17 in the first half. It's a good team. It's a well-coached team.

"And we've got to end this thing the right way before the guys go home for a couple of days for the Christmas break. But I'm proud of them. I'm not going to discount what they've accomplished because they should be proud of themselves for what they've done."

A stumble against North Dakota would take some of the wind out of the Cornhuskers' sails.

In terms of the college basketball schedule as a whole for the week ahead, Saturday is the day fans will want to clear their schedules.

St. John's plays Kentucky at 12:30 p.m. ET, with former Wildcats head coach Rick Pitino facing off against his old school once again. Ohio State vs. North Carolina (3 p.m.) and Houston vs. Arkansas (5:30 p.m.) follow that on CBS.

Two more Top 25 clashes (Auburn vs. Purdue and Duke vs. Texas Tech) help to close out the night.
