Latest Rumors on Mavs' Potential NBA Trade Deadline Plans amid Anthony Davis Buzz

Zach BacharDec 12, 2025

The Dallas Mavericks could choose to take an aggressive approach at the trade deadline despite the team's 9-16 record, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic.

"As one league source shared, there are even some indications that the Mavericks are still considering upgrading this current core rather than parting with their veterans," Amick reported Friday. "Time will tell if there's anything feasible on that front, or if this becomes the fire sale that so many have predicted."

If Dallas chooses to upgrade its roster, Anthony Davis' future for the remainder of the season may be secure.

Davis has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the beginning of his 2025-26 campaign, although NBA insider Marc Stein reported Friday "it is by no means automatic" that the Mavericks decide to part ways with the 10-time All-Star.

Dallas acquired Davis as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 2, but has struggled to stay healthy following the change of scenery.

He's averaging 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds to go along with 1.6 blocks per game this year, but has only appeared in 10 of the Mavericks' first 25 contests due to calf issues.

Still, Davis' future in Dallas could be bright if the team continues its recent success. The Mavericks own a 4-1 record over their past five games, led by contributions from a young core featuring Cooper Flagg, Ryan Nembhard and Max Christie.

The trade deadline for the 2025-26 season is on Feb. 5.
