What is the Timeline for Anthony Davis' Return to Mavs? Latest Update on Calf Injury
Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis will be on the shelf a little longer.
Davis will miss at least seven-to-10 more days while rehabbing from a calf injury, the team announced Sunday, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
Davis has been sidelined since leaving the first quarter of an Oct. 29 matchup with the Indiana Pacers with what the team described at the time as left lower leg soreness.
An MRI later later revealed "low grade left calf strain," the Mavs announced on Oct. 31. Head coach Jason Kidd described the injury at the time as a "day-to-day" issue.
Davis was sidelined for at least part of the offseason after undergoing eye surgery, which Kidd previously said had impacted his conditioning.
Although he was still averaging 25 points and 11.8 rebounds through his first four games, Davis may need some time to ramp up once he returns.
Davis' absence has raised concerns for the Mavs given his injury history, which limited him to 51 total games in a 2024-25 season split between the Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks.
His latest injury has put even more pressure on rookie Cooper Flagg, especially as Kyrie Irving remains sidelined while recovering from the torn ACL in his left knee he suffered last March.
While Kidd experimented with playing Flagg at point guard, the Mavs got off to a 3-8 start to season that led to the dismissal of former general manager Nico Harrison.
The Mavs will look to take some of the pressure off Flagg and start turning the season around by getting Davis back to game speed as soon as possible.
