Florida's Jon Sumrall Shares '2 Phones, 2 Jobs' Photo as He Prepares Tulane for CFP
Jon Sumrall made light of his dual loyalties as he juggles coaching duties with Florida and Tulane.
"I've got 2 Phones, 2 Jobs & 2 hours of sleep," he wrote on social media while sharing an image of himself representing both schools:
Florida held its introductory press conference for Sumrall on Dec. 1. Four days later, he was on the sideline as Tulane beat North Texas 34-21 in the American championship game, a result that guaranteed the Green Wave a College Football Playoff berth.
"Maybe I'm a football maniac, but I'm actually thriving right now," he said prior to the conference title matchup. "I'm freaking loving what I'm doing right now. I'm excited that I get to finish this as I get ready to start what's next."
The increased professionalization of college football has made it slightly easier for a coach to tie up any loose ends at their old job while getting settled at their new gig.
In conjunction with hiring Sumrall, Florida appointed former Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell as its GM for football.
In the past, Sumrall would've been the person shoring up the Gators' recruiting class and identifying targets in the transfer portal. Now, a lot of those duties fall into Caldwell's lap.
That gives Sumrall more time to focus on Tulane's first-round battle with Ole Miss on Dec. 20.
