Who Was Snubbed as Heisman Trophy Finalist? Fans Want Respect for Stockton, Rodriguez
The finalists for the Heisman Trophy are set.
During ESPN's Monday Night Countdown, it was revaled that Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia, Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love will head to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony.
Fans weighed in on potential snubs, with many citing Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez and Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Both Stockton and Rodriguez made strong cases to go to New York this year.
Stockton, who is in his first season as the Bulldogs starter, has thrown for 2,691 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions, adding 442 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. He helped lead George to a 11-1 regular season, an SEC championship and the third seed in the College Football Playoff bracket.
Rodriguez, who is in his fourth season at Texas Tech and fifth season of college football, has also had a tremendous year. He has 114 tackles, the second-most in the Big 12, along with seven forced fumbles, six passes defended and a sack.
Texas Tech is having arguably the best season in school history, finishing the regular season 11-1 and winning the Big 12 championship for the first time ever. The Red Raiders are also on the way to their first College Football Playoff appearance and earned a first-round bye.
While neither Stockton or Rodriguez will have the chance to go to New York for the Heisman Trophy ceremony, both players will look to lead their teams to the ultimate goal of winning a championship.
