Notre Dame Legend Brady Quinn Rips CFP After Snub, 'This Isn't A Serious Committee'

Zach BacharDec 7, 2025

Fox Sports analyst and former Notre Dame standout Brady Quinn called out the College Football Playoff selection committee after the Fighting Irish were left out of the 2025-26 CFP.

"There wasn't any logic waiting to move UM ahead of ND if Conf championship game outcomes are inconsequential," Quinn wrote in a post on X. "If Head to head was a factor, you had it all year. This isn't a serious committee. It's a made for TV event. Expand and get rid of the committee. BCS was a better formula. For ND, you now know 11-1 is the worst you can do to secure a spot in this current playoff format."

Alabama and Miami were the final at-large teams selected for the playoff on Sunday, with Notre Dame on the outside looking in.

CFP selection committee chair Hunter Yurachek explained how BYU's 34-7 loss to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game affected the Hurricanes clinching a playoff spot over the Fighting Irish.

"Once we moved Miami ahead of BYU, then we had that side-by-side comparison that everybody had been hungry for with Notre Dame and Miami," Yurachek said on the CFP Selection Show (1:04 mark). "You look at those two teams on paper and they are almost equal in their schedule strength, their common opponents, their results against their common opponents. But the one metric we had to fall back on again was the head-to-head. I charged the committee members to go back and watch that game again, the Miami-Notre Dame game, because it was so far back."

"We got some interesting debate from our coaches on what that game looked like as we watched it," he added. "With that in mind, we gave Miami the nod over Notre Dame into that 10 spot."

Notre Dame and Miami both compiled identical 10-2 records, while the Fighting Irish are currently on a 10-game win streak. The Hurricanes secured a 27-24 win over Notre Dame to open the season on Aug. 31, though.

Quinn's frustration regarding the selection process likely stemmed from the fact that his alma mater was ranked higher than Miami in each edition of the CFP rankings prior to Sunday's announcement.

Quinn suited up for the Fighting Irish from 2003-06, leading the school to three bowl appearances. He sits at No. 1 on the school's all-time passing yards list as well as No. 1 on its all-time passing touchdowns leaderboard.

While Notre Dame was hopeful to secure a playoff berth, Miami will face Texas A&M in the first round of the CFP on Dec. 20 instead.
