Kalen DeBoer, Ty Simpson Tout Alabama's CFP Bracket Resume Despite Loss to Georgia
Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer and quarterback Ty Simpson praised their team's resume after their 28-7 loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
Of note, DeBoer felt that the Crimson Tide's participation in the SEC Championship Game shouldn't be held against them.
DeBoer also noted Alabama's resume as a whole and his team's status as the first-place team during the SEC regular season.
Simpson, for his part, isn't concerned about the possibility that Alabama misses the CFP.
Alabama athletics also sent out a document outlining why the program should be in the bracket:
Alabama finished the regular season 10-2. One of those losses began the season at 5-7 Florida State, and that's by far the biggest knock against the Crimson Tide.
On the flip side, Alabama won 10 games, including seven in the SEC to lead the conference. The Crimson Tide handed Georgia its lone loss of the season, 24-21, and the Bulldogs are headed for a top-three CFP seed.
The Crimson Tide also crushed Vanderbilt, currently No. 14 in the CFP rankings, by a 30-14 score. Alabama also beat two other teams that were ranked in the Associated Press poll at the time in Missouri and Tennessee.
Alabama's other loss was a respectable one, 23-21 to No. 8 Oklahoma. Overall, Alabama has an impressive resume, one that will likely be good enough for the field.
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Alabama is a heavy -300 favorite to make the CFP field. Notre Dame is well ahead at -1200, while Miami looks like the first team out at +140.
Neither Notre Dame (by virtue of being an independent) or Miami (by virtue of not qualifying for the ACC Championship Game) had to play a conference championship game. Essentially, DeBoer is asking the committee to compare apples to apples and not hold the SEC Championship Game against them.
It was an ugly performance, though, as Alabama rushed for minus-three yards and was never really in this one.
Still, Alabama is helped by the fact that it ran through a tough SEC schedule and had some impressive wins, including a great one against Georgia. That could very well be enough, but we won't know for sure until Sunday at noon ET.
