Who Is on Lane Kiffin's LSU Coaching Staff? CFB Insider Dishes on Latest Rumors

Despite bringing several of his Ole Miss offensive assistants with him to LSU, Lane Kiffin doesn't appear likely to make many changes to the defensive staff.

Per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond is among "several" defensive assistants from Brian Kelly's staff expected to remain with the Tigers.

Kiffin announced on Friday that Blake Baker, who has been LSU's defensive coordinator since 2024, would be returning next season.

Rittenberg noted that Kiffin hopes to bring in Syracuse co-defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson for a job working with defensive line coach Kevin Peoples.

On the offensive side of the ball, Kiffin brought offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr., co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Joe Cox, wide receivers coach George McDonald and inside receivers coach Sawyer Jordan with him from Mississippi.

Weis is permitted to remain with Ole Miss through the College Football Playoff under new head coach Pete Golding before rejoining the Tigers.

It's not a surprise that Kiffin would have no problems maintaining continuity on the defensive side of the ball. The defense ranked 15th in points allowed per game and 25th in yards allowed per game.

Offense was the main problem for LSU in 2025. The unit tied for 108th out of 136 FBS teams in points per game and 110th in yards per game. The Tigers scored 20 points or fewer in six of 12 games.

During his six seasons at Ole Miss, Kiffin's offense never ranked lower than 29th in points per game. The Rebels were third in scoring in 2024 and 11th this season with 37.2 points per game.

Robinson could be the most notable outside addition to Kiffin's staff. The 40-year-old has been an assistant since 2009 when he was a graduate assistant at Penn State.

The longest stretch of Robinson's career at a single institution was his five-season run at Texas A&M. He was primarily the defensive line coach, but also had stints as co-defensive coordinator and associated head coach.

Robinson spent the final two games of the 2023 season as interim head coach for Texas A&M after Jimbo Fisher was fired.

LSU (7-5) is bowl eligible and could play one more game this season, though that would be under interim head coach Frank Wilson.

Kiffin accepted the Tigers job on Dec. 1 after agreeing to a deal worth a reported $91 million over seven years.
