Lane Kiffin Apologized to Ole Miss Reporter Ben Garrett After Viral Video Exchange
LSU head coach Lane Kiffin called On3's Ben Garrett to apologize the day after he confronted the reporter in person for comments made prior to his departure from Ole Miss.
OutKick's Trey Wallace shared a video Friday of Kiffin criticizing Garrett for referencing a Ludacris lyric in a podcast discussing the possibility the former Ole Miss head coach would leave the Rebels.
Kiffin confirmed two days later that he would be departing the program for LSU.
Kiffin also said during Friday's postgame press conference that he didn't know Garrett's name.
Garrett told ESPN's Mark Schlabach that Kiffin had used his name when calling him Saturday to apologize.
Hours after that call, Kiffin texted Garrett a meme of him in an LSU-colored hat referencing the Ludacris lyrics, Garrett told Schlabach.
Garrett had previously discussed both the call and the meme on a Tuesday episode of the Coach and Company Podcast.
"I have no issue with Lane Kiffin... He apologized, and I said, 'I appreciate that,'" Garrett said about the call. "I also said, 'I apologize for my role in it.'"
Not everyone associated with Ole Miss seems to be on positive terms with Kiffin following his departure from his likely College Football Playoff-bound program.
Kiffin's account of his exit from Ole Miss, which he said involved athletics director Keith Carter denying his request to coach in the CFP "despite the team also asking him to allow me to keep coaching them," has since been disputed by Carter as well as by multiple Rebels players.
