Will Deshaun Watson Play This Season? Latest on Browns QB's Injury Return Timeline
The Cleveland Browns have three weeks to decide whether quarterback Deshaun Watson will be playing this season.
The Browns designated Watson for return to practice Wednesday, opening a 21-day window during which he must be moved to the active roster or placed on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Watson has not played since suffering a right Achilles injury in Week 7 of the 2024 season. He underwent a second surgery to repair the tendon in January 2025.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Watson would start out with individual reps before "potentially" joining the scout team.
"It's a good next step for him," Stefanski said about Watson's return to pracitce. "But our focus, obviously, continues to remain on the Tennessee Titans.
When asked if the Browns wanted to see Watson on the playing field if possible, Stefanski answered: "Really not my focus, not his focus right this minute. His focus is putting a helmet on again for the first time, shoulder pads, throwing a football. That's where the focus is, to me... Our focus is activating this practice window, seeing him on the practice field, getting him into individual, those type of things."
The Browns have split the 2025 season between three starting quarterbacks in Watson's absence.
Joe Flacco led the Browns to a 1-3 start before he was benched and eventually traded to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel then led the Browns on a 1-5 stretch before the team handed the ball to another 2025 draft pick, Shedeur Sanders, ahead of Week 12.
The team has since gone 1-1 under Sanders, who is set to get a third straight start in Sunday's matchup with the visiting Titans.
While confirming that Sanders would remain QB1 for Week 14 after last Sunday's loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Stefanski declined to answer whether the rookie would remain in that role for the rest of the season.
The Browns are set to play three games within the next 21 days against the Titans (Dec. 7), Chicago Bears (Dec. 14) and Buffalo Bills (Dec. 21).
Watson will either be back on the active roster or officially sidelined for the rest of the season by the time the Browns wrap up the campaign against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Dec. 28 and the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 4.
The Browns have two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, as well as a projected cap hit of more than $80 million for Watson's contract next season.
Getting a chance to see Watson play this season could potentially help the team evaluate its quarterback room before deciding what to do with both the 2026 NFL draft and a potential restructuring or cut of his contract.
