Top LSU Commit Lamar Brown Reportedly Waiting to Sign, Details of Decision Revealed
Lineman Lamar Brown, the No. 2 prospect in the Class of 2026 according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings, remains committed to LSU. But don't expect him to officially join in the early signing period this week.
ESPN's Eli Lederman reported Tuesday that, "Per ESPN sources, Brown intends to wait for newly hired coach Lane Kiffin to assemble his LSU coaching staff before signing, placing an air of uncertainty over the nation's top recruit on the eve of the 2026 early signing period."
Brown choosing to de-commit would be a stunning turn of events after the 5-star athlete was seen greeting LSU fans with Kiffin shortly after the new head coach was hired:
But as Lederman reported, Brown "holds particularly close relationships with Tigers defensive coordinator Blake Baker and interim coach Frank Wilson, whose respective futures with the program remain uncertain" as Kiffin assembles his staff. Wilson will remain the team's interim head coach for its bowl game.
Brown is currently LSU's top commit and one of the best offensive and defensive lineman in the country. Gabe Brooks of 247Sports noted that he's an "elite combination of enforcer, athlete, and technician" and wrote that he's "legitimately a 5-star prospect on offense or defense. Projects as a high-major impact player who could become a high-round NFL Draft candidate."
Kiffin has already flipped the commitments of tight end JC Anderson, center Ryan Miret and wideout Brayden Allen to LSU since his arrival, though he lost receiver Kenny Darby.
The possible departure of Brown, however, would be a far greater blow.
