How Did Jonathan Kuminga Do in Return to Warriors After Knee Injury? NBA Fans Weigh In
Jonathan Kuminga helped the Golden State Warriors close out a 104-96 win over the New Orleans Pelicans in his Saturday night return from injury.
Kuminga scored 10 points while playing 19 minutes in his first game back after spending seven contests sidelined with bilateral knee tendinitis.
His return was highlighted by back-to-back threes that erased a Pelicans lead in the fourth quarter.
Kuminga was ultimately pulled from the game with the score tied at 87-87 and remained benched for the final four and a half minutes.
He finished the night having shot 4-for-8 from the field and 2-for-5 from deep while contributing one rebound and two assists but committing two turnovers.
Fans were impressed by Kuminga's late contributions on offense but expressed concern about his effectiveness on defense.
Kuminga had last played for the Warriors in a Nov. 12 road game at the San Antonio Spurs. He exited that game in the first half due to what the team described at the time as "knee soreness."
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr then said Nov. 23 that Kuminga's injury had been "worse than what we thought."
Prior to his injury, Kuminga had averaged 14.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists while averaging more than 29 minutes through his first 12 games of the season.
The Warriors will hope to see more contributions from Kuminga when the team returns to action in Tuesday's home game against the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
