What is the Extent of Jonathan Kuminga's Injury After Exiting Warriors vs. Spurs?
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga was ruled out for the remainder of the team's matchup with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday due to knee soreness.
Kuminga exited the game near the end of the first half and didn't return.
He was listed as questionable heading into the clash with San Antonio due to bilateral knee tendonitis.
While Kuminga was eventually able to suit up, he came off the bench for the first time this season. He finished with four rebounds and one turnover in 12 minutes prior to exiting the game, missing his only shot attempted.
Kuminga was relatively healthy throughout the first three years of his Warriors career, but is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he appeared in a mere 47 games due to a right ankle sprain.
He previously suffered a strained patella tendon in his right knee ahead of his rookie season in 2021.
This year, Kuminga averaged 14.9 points and 6.8 rebounds to go along with 3.1 assists per game heading into Wednesday's action. He shot 48.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point territory.
Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million contract with the Warriors as a restricted free agent on Sept. 30. ESPN's Shams Charania noted that the second year contains a "team option designed for the contract to be ripped up and renegotiated next summer."
In the meantime, Golden State has struggled to find any consistency to open the 2025-26 season. The Warriors currently sit at 6-6.
If Kuminga is forced to miss time moving forward, rookie Will Richard is a top candidate to see an expanded role in Golden State's offense.
