Which Teams Will Advance in UEFA Champions League 2025-26? Latest Table, Projections
Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League is now complete and one team sits alone in first place, as Arsenal's 3-1 win over Bayern Munich left them as the only team to claim five wins out of five in the competition.
With just three games remaining in the league phase, Arsenal are nearly qualified for the knockout phase already, though they will be seeking one of the eight automatic berths in the Round of 16.
The teams that finish ranked ninth through 24th, meanwhile, will play a home-and-away playoff to determine the other eight berths in the Round of 16.
After Arsenal, the four teams on 12 points (PSG, Bayern, Inter and Real Madrid) are all powerhouses and seemingly in the driver's seat for an automatic berth in the Round of 16. Inter still have a gauntlet ahead of them, however, with matches against Liverpool, Arsenal and Dortmund.
PSG has a tough road to travel as well, with Athletic Club, Sporting and Newcastle up next, though the defending champions will be favored in all three. Bayern won't face pushovers in Sporting, Union Saint-Gilloise and PSV, but that's still a manageable slate. Finally, Real Madrid has some major tests in Manchester City, Monaco and Benfica.
Five teams currently sit on 10 points (Dortmund, Chelsea, Sporting, Man City and Atalanta) and are very much in the running for a top-eight place. Dortmund still have Tottenham and Inter left to face, while Chelsea's biggest test will be Atalanta. Sporting has Bayern and PSG looming and Man City still must face Real Madrid and Galatasaray.
At this point Arsenal, PSG, Bayern, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man City and Atalanta look like good bets to secure a top-eight berth, and don't be surprised if Atlético Madrid leapfrogs Inter, Dortmund and Sporting to claim one of those berths as well.
The rest of the field is pretty jumbled, though the biggest shock is Ajax failing to secure a single point out of five games. They will likely need three wins out of three to get into the playoff, though the schedule is manageable in that regard (Qarabag FK, Villarreal, Olympiacos).
Other teams of note: Juventus is 22nd on six points and Barcelona is 18th on seven points. Neither one of those teams are safe.
