CSU's Darius Curry, Liam Wortmann Suspended for Spitting on Boise State Players

Colorado State suspended quarterback Darius Curry and offensive lineman Liam Wortmann for spitting on Boise State players during Saturday's 49-21 Mountain West loss.

"After having a chance to review the film following the game, I want to apologize to the Boise State football players, Coach Danielson, and everyone at Boise State Universit," Colorado State interim head coach Tyson Summers said in a statement.

Colorado State athletic director John Weber called the actions "unacceptable."

Video captured Colorado State quarterback Darius Curry spitting in the face of Boise State pass-rusher Jayden Virgin-Morgan. After he was blocked on a play, Curry approached Virgin-Morgan and spat at him.

The quarterback was not penalized for his actions.

Curry spitting during a game came one day before Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is set to miss Sunday's matchup against the New England Patriots because he is suspended for spitting at Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey last week.

This has been a season to forget for Colorado State, which dropped to 2-9 on the campaign.

It already fired head coach Jay Norvell earlier this year and has now lost five in a row. It is also an ugly 1-6 in Mountain West play and will finish the season against Air Force on Friday.

Saturday was Curry's first start, although the redshirt freshman came off the bench in the previous game against New Mexico and went 26-of-34 for 248 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.

He was 26-of-46 for 293 yards, two touchdowns and three picks against Boise State.

Curry was a 3-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings, and someone who could be an important part of the team moving forward into next season and beyond. He was getting some playing time near the end of the 2025 campaign.

As for Boise State, it snapped a two-game losing streak of its own and improved to 7-4 overall and 5-2 in Mountain West play with Saturday's win.

Virgin Morgan finished with three tackles, including a tackle for loss, in the contest.
