What Was Michael Vick's Final Record in Debut Head-Coaching Season for Norfolk State?

Taylyn Hadley Nov 22, 2025

After a 44-15 road loss to Howard, Michael Vick and Norfolk State fell to 1-11 in his debut season as head coach.

Going 0-5 in the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference, Vick's inaugural college football campaign was filled with challenges, as the team was unable to generate much momentum over the course of the season. Their lone victory came in their second game, a 34-31 overtime win over Virginia State at home.

The one-win season marks Norfolk State's worst since 2004, when the team also finished 1-8, claiming its lone victory over North Carolina A&T at home.

Vick spoke candidly to the media on Monday about the challenges and lessons learned during his first year leading the program.

"It's been in the situation that I'm in now and, you know, going through the season, but obviously looking at the future, you know, I just see all the positives," Vick told reporters. "And, you know, so thankful that I had this healthy opportunity to go out this year with my team, with my coaches, and battle each and every week. Obviously, a lot of tough losses, but learned a lot, you know, along the way."

Vick remained optimistic about next season, emphasizing the importance of staying with his team to build camaraderie and continuity.

"Getting up for next year, super excited, man. I understand that in any sport in life in general, it's about consistency," he continued. "And that's what I'm searching for now—how to create an atmosphere and build a team with structure and discipline."
