Who is Deuce Knight? What You Need to Know About Auburn's 5-Star QB After 6-TD Game

Zach BacharNov 22, 2025

Auburn true freshman quarterback Deuce Knight shined during the team's 62-17 win over Mercer on Saturday.

In the first start of Knight's Tigers career, he finished 15-of-20 for 239 yards and two touchdowns without getting picked off. He also rushed for a game-high 162 yards and four scores on just nine carries.

Expectations are high for Knight, as he's a 5-star prospect who was listed as the No. 5 quarterback and No. 28 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class (via 247Sports' composite rankings).

He received offers from several schools including Alabama, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Oregon and Tennessee as a recruit. He initially committed to the Fighting Irish before flipping to Auburn in Oct. 2024.

Knight showcased his dual-threat abilities on Saturday, which were highlighted by 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins in his scouting report.

"Has proven to be a dynamic mover both in and outside of the pocket and can produce big gains with his legs as he has the acceleration and agility to make defenders miss in space or tight quarters," Ivins wrote.

Tigers interim coach DJ Durkin announced that Knight would be the team's starter on Thursday, as Ashton Daniels skipped the game to preserve a year of eligibility.

Daniels is expected to return to the starting lineup for Auburn's Iron Bowl clash with No. 10 Alabama on Nov. 29, though.

Still, the Tigers' future is particularly bright following Knight's performance on Saturday.
