What Is Ja Morant's Trade Value? Updated Landing Spots as NBA Scout Dishes on Rumors
Trade rumors continue to swirl around Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant as he struggles through a disappointing 2025-26 season thus far.
According to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, league sources expect the Grizzlies to explore Morant's trade market, although there is a belief it will be difficult for the organization to get proper value in return for him.
Despite that, an anonymous Western Conference scout told Bontemps, "I do think they'll move him."

Originally selected second overall by the Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA draft, Morant's career started out with great promise, as he was named NBA Rookie of the Year and then became an All-Star in his third and fourth seasons.
However, injuries and a suspension related to twice flashing a gun during Instagram Live videos limited Morant to just nine games in 2023-24 and 50 games last season.
Morant was still productive when he played, averaging at least 23 points per game in four straight seasons from 2021 to 2025.
This season has been a different story for the 26-year-old guard, as he is averaging just 17.9 points, 7.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game through 12 contests.
Morant's scoring average thus far is his worst since his rookie year, and his field-goal percentage of 35.9 percent and three-point percentage of 16.7 percent are by far the worst marks of his career.
On top of that, Morant told reporters earlier this month that he wasn't feeling the same joy he usually does playing basketball after serving a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
Despite that, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported this month that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings are "monitoring" Morant's situation.
Both teams make sense as potential landing spots for Morant should the Grizzlies decide to trade him.
The Kings have the second-worst record in the Western Conference this season at 3-13, so while they aren't close to contending, they have a glaring need at point guard that Morant could fill after trading De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs last season.
As for the T-Wolves, they have reached the Western Conference Finals in back-to-back years, and they are off to another strong start at 10-5.
The team's top pure point guard, Mike Conley, is 38 years old, however, and Minnesota could benefit from far better and more consistent production from that spot.
Amick also reported that the Houston Rockets are not likely to pursue Morant, but he would potentially be a great fit for a Rockets team that is among the top contenders in the West.
At 10-3, the Rockets entered play Friday with the third-best record in the Western Conference, led by Kevin Durant, Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson.
Fred VanVleet was supposed to be the team's starting point guard this season, but he tore his ACL, leaving the Rockets without a clear answer at the position.
Thompson has filled in and played well, but he isn't a natural point guard, and acquiring Morant would allow Thompson to play a more nebulous role, which perhaps better fits his strengths.
