Stephen Curry Says He Was 'Very Aware' of Making NBA History, Joining Michael Jordan

Stephen Curry had Michael Jordan on his mind when he tied an NBA record held by His Airness while leading the Golden State Warriors to a 109-108 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night.

Curry, who tied Jordan's record for most 40-point games by a player after turning 30 in the victory, said after the game he was "very aware" he matched the Chicago Bulls legend.

Curry dropped a season-high 49 points against the Spurs, giving him 44 games with at least 40 points since turning 30. He finished 16-of-26 from the field, including 9-of-17 from three-point range.

This was Curry's second straight 40-point outing in a win over the Spurs. He put up 46 in Golden State's 125-120 victory on Wednesday. It marks the first time he has scored at least 40 points in back-to-back games since the 2022-23 season.

Curry has played 413 regular-season games since turning 30 on March 14, 1988. Jordan played 434 games after his 30th birthday, which also overlapped with two of his retirements. He missed 99 games during his age-30 and 31 seasons following his initial retirement in October 1993.

Jordan was also out of the NBA for three seasons from 1998 to 2001 before returning for his two-season run with the Washington Wizards. His final 40-point game was on Feb. 21, 2003, when he put up 43 points in Washington's 89-86 win over the New Jersey Nets.

Now in his age-37 season, Curry is showing no signs of slowing down. The two-time NBA MVP is averaging 29.1 points per game on 39.1 percent three-point shooting in 11 starts.
