Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle Make Spurs History With Triple-Doubles vs. Warriors
The San Antonio Spurs came up short Wednesday night in a 125-120 loss to the Golden State Warriors, but the pair of Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle provided another glimpse into the team's bright future.
Wembanyama (31 points, 15 rebounds, 10 assists) and Castle (23 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) each had a triple-double, and that amounted to a franchise first:
The Spurs led the Warriors by as many as 16 points but faded after a blistering start. Stephen Curry had a game-high 46 points in a performance that exemplified the 11-time All-Star at his best.
Despite the defeat, San Antonio remains third in the Western Conference at 8-3, and it doesn't have to wait long to gain a measure of revenge on Golden State. The teams square off again Friday at Frost Bank Center.
If Wembanyama and Castle can approach the levels they were at on Wednesday, there's a good chance the Spurs prevail in the rematch.
