Will Jazz Chisholm Jr., Yankees Agree to Long-Term Contract? Cashman Provides Update
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman provided an update on negotiations with infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. regarding a long-term contract.
"We have not had any conversations outside of, you know, he's looking forward to playing next year," Cashman told reporters Wednesday. "He loves playing here. If you want to have a legitimate conversation about value, open to a longer-term conversation as well. But that's the extent of it."
Chisholm is arbitration-eligible for 2026 before he's set to become a free agent at the end of next season.
He previously discussed his uncertain long-term future in New York, expressing his desire to remain with the team.
"I don't want to leave New York," Chisholm said, per Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. "If you've ever played here, you would never want to leave. At the end of the day, it just depends on if they want me. That's the difference. Do they want a 40-40 player? You tell me."
The 27-year-old wrapped up an impressive 2025 campaign in pinstripes, hitting .242 while recording 31 home runs and 31 stolen bases to go along with 80 RBI. He also posted an .813 OPS, earning his second career All-Star nod.
Chisholm opened his MLB tenure with the Miami Marlins before he was acquired by the Yankees in a July 2024 trade. He excelled after the swap, amassing 11 homers in 46 games.
With free agency looming for Chisholm, talks with New York surrounding a long-term deal haven't taken place yet.
