How Will Dirk Nowitzki Reportedly Impact Mavs 'Once Again' After Nico Harrison Fired?
The Dallas Mavericks reportedly hope to bring in a franchise legend following general manager Nico Harrison's firing on Tuesday.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Mavs have "optimism" that they can "reintegrate" all-time great Dirk Nowitzki "in some capacity." Stein clarified that Nowitzki role could be formal or informal, but the team wants "to ensure that his voice is once again heard."
Nowitzki obviously has a connection to the franchise, given that he spent his entire career in Dallas, winning an NBA championship with the team. Two of his former teammates are also currently on the Mavs staff in Jason Kidd, the team's head coach, and Michael Finley, Dallas' interim general manager.

Kerr Not Expected to Return
Nowitzki, who retired in 2019, is familiar with front office duties as well. He previously served as a special advisor to the Mavs, helping with their head coach and general manager searches in 2021.
Though Nowitzki could play a role in hiring the next general manager of the Mavs, it's unclear how heavily involved he'll be, given his other commitments as an analyst for Amazon Prime's NBA coverage.
Still, the fact that Nowitzki spent more than two decades with the organization means his voice will carry some weight.
