Will Brian Daboll Return to Bills Staff After Giants Firing? Sean McDermott Weighs In
Brian Daboll impressed as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills before he was the head coach of the New York Giants, but the AFC East team is in no hurry to bring him back even after the Giants fired him Monday.
"That's not under any kind of consideration," Bills head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday when asked if he would bring Daboll back to work with quarterback Josh Allen.
McDermott also confirmed the team is keeping Joe Brady as the offensive coordinator.
Daboll was the OC in Buffalo for four years from 2018 through 2021, which were the first four seasons of Allen's career after the team selected him with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2018 draft.
Allen struggled with consistency at the start of his career but became one of the league's best quarterbacks while working with Daboll. The Bills finished second in the league in yards and points in 2020 and third in points and fifth in yards in 2021 before Daboll left for the Giants.
Buffalo is just 2-3 in its last five games after Sunday's shocking loss to the Miami Dolphins, so some consternation is to be expected. That McDermott was asked about Daboll, given his history with the organizatio,n is not surprising, but the Bills are maintaining their current course.
They are also still 6-3 overall despite the recent struggles and in ideal position to make the playoffs and perhaps compete for a Super Bowl.
But if they struggle down the stretch and do not accomplish their goals, there will likely be more Daboll questions at the end of the season.
