Ty Simpson, Alabama's Offensive Struggles Spotlighted By Fans Despite Win vs. LSU

Taylyn Hadley Nov 9, 2025

Ty Simpson and No. 4 Alabama secured a 20–9 win over LSU on Saturday despite a quiet performance from the Crimson Tide offense.

With the home victory, Alabama improved to 8–1 overall and remained perfect at 6–0 in SEC play.

Simpson threw for 277 yards and one touchdown while completing 21-of-35 passes, connecting with Ryan Williams for the team's lone passing score. Daniel Hill added a rushing touchdown to round out the Tide's offensive production.

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier struggled to find rhythm, finishing with 121 yards on 18-of-21 passing and -13 rushing yards before being replaced by sophomore Michael Van Buren Jr., who went 5-of-11 for 52 yards.

The Tigers dropped to 5–4 overall and 2–4 in SEC play as interim head coach Frank Wilson suffered his first loss since taking over for Brian Kelly.

Despite the win, Alabama's offensive inconsistency drew criticism from fans and analysts, as the team rushed for just 53 total yards and looks to sharpen its performance heading into the final stretch of the season.

LSU struggled early, missing a field goal and fumbling on its first possessions as Alabama capitalized with a field goal to take a 3–0 lead after the opening quarter.

The Tigers got on the board with a field goal to start the second, but their defense couldn't contain Alabama's rhythm. The Crimson Tide scored touchdowns on two of their next three drives and entered halftime with a 17–3 lead despite missing a 26-yard field goal attempt.

LSU managed a 44-yard field goal in the third to trim the deficit to 17–6 heading into the fourth. After recovering a fumble that led to another LSU field goal to open the fourth, the Crimson Tide's defense halted LSU's momentum and they responded with a late score of their own to seal the victory.

Alabama will host No. 12 Oklahoma next Saturday, while LSU returns home to face Arkansas.
