Diego Pavia Told Ty Simpson 'We'll See You Again' After Bama-Vandy, Nick Saban Says
After Vanderbilt lost 30-14 to Alabama on Oct. 5, Commodores quarterback Diego Pavis reportedly had a message for Crimson Tide signal-caller Ty Simpson.
Former Alabama head coach and seven-time national champion Nick Saban relayed the story on ESPN's College GameDay in a conversation with panelist Pat McAfee (h/t Mike Rodak of Bama247).
"Your man Diego has all the confidence in the world," Saban said. "I talked to Ty Simpson. Ty Simpson said after Alabama beat Vanderbilt, shaking hands with Diego, he says, 'We'll see you again.'"
At this juncture, it's unlikely that the two teams could meet again in the SEC Championship. Alabama controls its own destiny to grab a berth in the conference title matchup at 5-0, tied with Texas A&M atop the SEC.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt is tied for sixth in the league at 3-2 after losing 34-31 to Texas last week. The Commodores would need to win out and get a lot of help just to make the SEC Championship.
At this point, their best chance to meet Alabama would be in the College Football Playoff at some juncture. Vanderbilt needs to win out and get some help to make that bracket.
So chances are Pavia and the Commodores won't be meeting Simpson and the Crimson Tide this year. However, they have their own challenges up ahead, beginning with Auburn at home on Saturday. A bye week then looms before Vanderbilt closes with Kentucky at home and Tennessee on the road.
