TCU originally introduced this version of the "blood frog" uniform in 2022. It was a clever way of incorporating the coolest—and creepiest—element of the actual horned frog into its look.
Even though the typical North American horned lizard measures just nine centimeters in length, their defense mechanisms against would-be predators includes the ability to shoot blood with toxins from their eyes.
Sadly, TCU's football teams don't have the ability to do that. At least as far as we know, but head coach Sonny Dykes does have his team playing very well this season.
The Horned Frogs enter Saturday's game with a 6-2 record, though they haven't been able to crack the AP Top 25 poll since a 27-24 loss to Arizona State on Sept. 26.
Iowa State is trending in the wrong direction after starting the season 5-0 and climbing up to No. 14 in the AP poll entering October. The Cyclones have dropped four straight games, though three of the four have been decided by eight points or fewer.
Saturday marks the first meeting between the Big 12 rivals since 2023. Iowa State won that matchup 27-14.
The last time these two teams played at Amon G. Carter Stadium was during the 2022 season. TCU cruised to a 62-14 victory en route to reaching the College Football Playoff Championship Game.
