Texas Tech and BYU play each other Saturday, but the two fanbases are coming together for an important cause off the football field before the game.

As Shehan Jeyarajah of CBS Sports shared, BYU fans have provided significant financial assistance after the wife of the Texas Tech team barber was injured in a car accident:

As of Thursday at 12:30 p.m. ET, the GoFundMe has raised more than $120,000.

"Hello everyone, my name is Ivan Ortiz," the GoFundMe message reads. "My wife Maddie Ortiz was critically injured in a devastating car accident caused by a drunk driver on October 16th, leaving her with severe injuries and a long road to recovery. As she faces multiple surgeries and the possibility of being transferred to an out of state rehabilitation center, we're struggling with the emotional and financial toll. Maddie is a stay at home mom for our 3 year old son, and I am our family's sole provider. I'm a licensed barber for Texas Tech Football and for a private studio. My income is based off 100% commission at this time, and I have taken off work to be by Maddie's side during this difficult time since the accident."

Ivan Ortiz spoke to Sam Jane of The Athletic and said Maddie was placed on a ventilator for two weeks and underwent multiple surgeries.

"It's a miracle she's alive right now," he said while revealing she has made notable progress and has responded to those around her and opened her eyes.

"It went from a hate week to everybody's supporting each other now," he said. "It's more of a camaraderie instead of a war. I didn't realize this situation, my story, would bring some peace to this game, this week."

Ortiz also said Texas Tech has been supportive and that he plans to return to the facility Thursday for players who need haircuts ahead of Saturday's game against BYU.

The Red Raiders are No. 8 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings and just behind the seventh-ranked Cougars. The winner will be in an ideal position to make the Big 12 championship game and perhaps have an opportunity to compete for a first-round bye in the 12-team CFP field.
