Woj Talks Reaction to Luka Doncic Trade to Lakers, 'Shut My Phone Off and Went to Bed'

Former NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski wasn't experiencing any FOMO when the blockbuster trade involving Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis sent the sports world into a frenzy.

Wojnarowski, who's now the general manager for St. Bonaventure men's basketball, said on The Ryen Russillo Show he went back to sleep after getting a few messages about the deal in February:

"If I wanted to still be doing it, I'd be doing it," he said. "I think there just comes a point where you say I just don't want to spend my time on it anymore."

Wojnarowski walked away from his job at ESPN in September 2024. The GM opportunity at St. Bonaventure allowed him to return to his alma mater, and he had grown tired of breaking some of the NBA's biggest news.

"What I was doing, it just wasn't fulfilling anymore," he told Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix. "I was just done. This is what gets me excited. To learn something new, to be part of something like this. It's a whole new challenge."

The Luka/AD trade was a prime example of how prominent news-breakers can never truly take a moment off. ESPN's Shams Charania first broke the news at 12:12 a.m. ET.

Back in 2019, it was 1:54 a.m. on the East Coast when Wojnarowski reported Kawhi Leonard was signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, which was followed by Paul George's trade to L.A.

General managers wait for no one when it comes to timing their transactions.

Charania once claimed he averages 17 hours of screen time per day in order to stay on top of everything that's happening in the NBA.

As Wojnarowski told Russillo, becoming one of the most prominent insiders in all of sports brought plenty of fame and a healthy salary. After occupying that position for so long, it was understandable why he wanted to leave that grind behind and not look back.
