Donovan Mitchell Scores 46, Excites NBA Fans as Cavs Beat Maxey, 76ers with Embiid Out
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Philadelphia 76ers with a 132–121 victory on Wednesday at home behind 46 points from Donovan Mitchell on 71 percent shooting from the field.
On the second night of a back-to-back following a collapse against the Chicago Bulls, who rallied for a 113–111 win on Tuesday, Joel Embiid was listed as out ahead of the game for "left knee injury management," according to USA Today's Ky Carlin.
Mitchell added four rebounds and eight assists to his standout game, while four Cavaliers starters finished in double figures. Jarrett Allen recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double, and Evan Mobley added 23 points.
The short-handed 76ers were led by Tyrese Maxey with 27 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, while the rest of the starters struggled with 30 combined points. Off the bench, Quentin Grimes also finished with 27 points.
Fans reacted to Mitchell's standout performance as he led the Cavaliers to a dominant win over Philadelphia.
With the win, the Cavaliers improved to 5–3, while the 76ers, who got off to a hot start this season, fell to 5-3 with back-to-back losses.
Cleveland jumped out to a fast start in the first quarter, building a 41–27 lead before the 76ers battled back in the second to trail by three at halftime. Maxey led Philadelphia with 18 points at the break, while Mitchell paced the Cavaliers with 21.
Cleveland turned it on in the third quarter, extending its lead to 20 points and carrying the momentum through the fourth to seal a blowout victory despite a late-game push from the Cavs.
The Cavaliers will hit the road to face the Washington Wizards on Friday, while the 76ers will host the Toronto Raptors on Saturday.
