NBA Free Agents 2015: Latest Rumors and Predictions for Market's Biggest Names

Chris RolingJul 22, 2015

As summer heats up, the Association's free-agent market does the same.

Some major names already have new homes, but now is the time of offseason when contenders grab a critical so-called missing piece. Pretenders either buy enough to help weather the storm and have free cap space later or bring on veterans to help mentor a rebuilding effort.

Either way, there isn't a reason to turn an eye away from the free-agent rumor mill just yet. Too many pieces capable of contributing right away can land in ideal locales and shift the complexion of either conference.

Here's a look at the latest on the biggest names.

Glen Davis and the Clippers

Glen Davis, the Big Baby, isn't the household name he was years ago with the Boston Celtics, but he can still provide critical depth for any team in need at the position.

After a few odd years with the Orlando Magic, Davis found his role with the Los Angeles Clippers as a key depth player. His numbers were not impressive last season, but he appeared in 74 games and spelled Blake Griffin well.

ESPN's Arash Markazi reported the Clippers might look the LSU product's way before camp or at least test the market as a whole:

For quite a while, Los Angeles was stuck on whether DeAndre Jordan would be back with the team. Now the team can turn its attention to other matters, depth perhaps topping the list.

With Josh Smith on board, there may not be a ton of room for Davis. Still, the Davis-Doc Rivers connection makes sense. If it's where the veteran wants to be, the Clippers would be silly to pass up on another splash of elite depth.

Prediction: Davis signs with the Clippers.

Chris Copeland Sweepstakes

When it comes to quality depth on the market, Chris Copeland now comes close to the top of the list.

Copeland is a three-year veteran at 31 years of age who can stretch the floor with his shooting, so it makes sense there are various teams interested in his services.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported strong interest from the Milwaukee Bucks:

Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling noted the Bucks are not alone, though:

Copeland averaged just 6.2 points last year on 16.6 minutes, but in two of his three seasons in the league he has shot a minimum of 42 percent from deep. Such an ability to stretch the floor from the 4 makes him a hot commodity.

For the San Antonio Spurs, Copeland would be an interesting addition at a position that already features LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, although he could bump up and see time behind Kawhi Leonard at small forward.

The Bucks make more sense, both given the nature of the reports and as far as fit goes. In Milwaukee, Copeland would be the direct backup behind Jabari Parker and fits quite well within the offense.

Look for the Bucks to do whatever it takes to get a deal done, especially with other suitors revealed.

Prediction: Copeland signs with the Bucks.

Jason Terry's Market

There is always room for a veteran such as Jason Terry on a championship-caliber roster. Terry might be going on 38 years old, but he's a key presence of a player who suits up on any title-bound team.

Last year, he averaged 21.3 minutes per game in his first season with the Houston Rockets and 7.0 points and 1.9 assists with his patented smooth sailing from deep, knocking down 39 percent of his shots.

It doesn't seem a secret the Rockets would like to have him back, either, per ESPN.com's Calvin Watkins:

Going by what Terry has said he wants, according to Daniel Gotera of KHOU-TV in Houston, the Rockets look like a great fit:

It's not hard to see why the Rockets want Terry. Ty Lawson and Patrick Beverley will rotate at the point next to James Harden, but there is always room for a sharpshooting veteran who can step in and play major minutes if necessary.

Terry would be no means be the biggest addition of the offseason for the Rockets, but he'd be a critical one nonetheless if he can play the mentor for the other point guards and make key contributions when it matters.

Prediction: Terry signs with the Rockets.
