Julian Sayin Hyped as Heisman Trophy Favorite by CFB Fans After OSU's Blowout of PSU

Ohio State keeps rolling along, and their quarterback's Heisman Trophy chances are only improving.

Julian Sayin lit up Penn State on Saturday, finishing 20-of-23 for 316 yards and four scores in the Buckeyes' 38-14 win.

Carnell Tate (five catches for 124 yards and a touchdown) and Jeremiah Smith (six receptions for 123 yards and two scores) found plenty of success against Penn State's defensive backs, while Ohio State's defense largely bogged down the Nittany Lions and quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer (145 yards, an interception, four sacks taken), who was making just his second career start.

But Sayin was the main story on the afternoon, and fans and pundits alike are starting to sense there might be a Heisman Trophy in his future:

Ohio State is now 8-0 on the season and will remain the top-ranked team in the country after Saturday's comfortable win, and at this point it's hard to find any obvious point on the schedule where the first blemish might come until the final week of the regular season against Michigan. By that point, the team's place in the College Football Playoff would be secured regardless of the result.

Perhaps Purdue, Rutgers or UCLA might pull off the unlikely upset, but it feels highly unlikely given how convincing the Buckeyes continue to be on a weekly basis. That starts and ends with Sayin, who now has 23 passing touchdowns on the season to just three interceptions.

Players like Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson, among others, will have their say in the Heisman conversation. But Sayin's odds in that regard are trending up, and so are Ohio State's chances to repeat as national champions.
