Pelicans' Zion Williamson Says Foot Injury is 'Nothing Major,' Will Be 'Day to Day'
After missing Monday's game due to what the New Orleans Pelicans said was a bone contusion in his left foot, Zion Williamson isn't concerned the injury will be an issue going forward.
Williamson told reporters after Tuesday's practice that the foot issue is "nothing major" and is "day to day" right now.
"Right now we're in a day-to-day thing," he said. "But nothing major. Nothing that is going to keep me out for a long time. Just day to day."
Williamson explained the injury occurred when he stepped on Victor Wembanyama's foot after a putback dunk in the Pelicans' 120-116 overtime loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 24.
"Landed on someone's foot and the side of my foot just banged the ground," Williamson said. "The pain level didn't really pick up until a day or two days later. I spoke with the team, made the best decision on it. Got it looked at."
The Pelicans originally listed Williamson as questionable for the Celtics game before holding him out closer to tipoff. He is currently listed as questionable going into Wednesday's matchup with the Denver Nuggets.
Williamson was practicing on a limited basis on Tuesday, though he was running sprints up and down the court.
Any injury to Williamson is going to be magnified given his history, especially one to his foot area. He has missed significant time in his career due to various foot, ankle and toe injuries.
Williamson missed the entire 2021-22 season due to lingering foot issues after he had offseason surgery. The 25-year-old has played 216 out of a possible 475 games since entering the NBA.
He had a fantastic start to this season prior to missing Monday's game. The two-time All-Star is averaging 27.0 points on 46.2 percent shooting, 9.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and four steals in his first two games.
The Pelicans will be in Denver on Wednesday looking for their first win of the season.
