Ahead of the all important winter months, what are the current rumors surrounding the top free agents and what are the predictions for their ultimate landing place?

Dodgers Interested in Kyle Tucker
1 of 3
The Los Angeles Dodgers are three wins away from repeating as World Series champions, but the front office is already looking to the future and how to better the team for next season.
The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported that the team will be in play for free agent third baseman Kyle Tucker.
Tucker, despite being hampered by injury in 2025, still hit .262 with 133 hits, 22 home runs, and 73 RBI for the Chicago Cubs.
He is a strong hitter who can benefit any lineup and may fetch the highest contract of all free agents, with Spotrac predicting a contract as high as 10 years, $401 million.
If so, that leaves only a handful of teams who can realistically pay him, with the Dodgers being at the top of the list. That he would be an immediate upgrade at third base only enhances his potential value to the NL champs.
A signing of that magnitude would be enough to return the Dodgers, at the very least, to the NLCS again next season, if not a third trip back to the Fall Classic, assuming pitching holds up and there are no major injuries plaguing them along the way.
Prediction: If the contract is that high and the Dodgers want him, Los Angeles gets Tucker
Boston Eyeing a Schwarbomb?
2 of 3
It is entirely possible the Boston Red Sox lose our on third baseman Alex Bregman, who opted out of his deal with the team to test free agent, and the organization could move on from designated hitter Masataka Yoshida, leaving the team with a need for a big bat.
Enter Kyle Schwarber.
MassLive's Chris Cotillo reported, "[Red Sox manager Alex] Cora has been clear about his admiration for Schwarber, who the Red Sox love, and if a quick reunion with the Phillies doesn't come together, expect Boston to show some real interest there."
Schwarber is an NL MVP candidate with 56 home runs, 132 RBI, and 145 total hits. He was a masher for the Philadelphia Phillies this year and one of the facilitators of that playoff team's offense.
It makes sense that the Red Sox and, more specifically, manager Cora would want to bring on board a player who can dynamically change a game with the single swing of a bat.
With that said, Schwarber is beloved in Philadelphia, both by fans and teammates alike. The idea of him suiting up for another team in 2026, while possible, just feels unlikely.
Prediction: Boston makes an offer but Schwarber stays put in the City of Brotherly Love
Cubs Looking for Starting Pitching
3 of 3
The Chicago Cubs eliminated the San Diego Padres from the postseason before falling to the Milwaukee Brewers in five games in the NLDS. The desire to get back to the World Series for the first time since 2016 and win their second title this century after waiting nearly 100 years for their latest is high enough for team officials to pursue one of their most obvious weaknesses: starting pitching.
Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reported that the Cubs will go after Dylan Cease this winter (h/t MLBTradeRumors).
Cease had a down year compared to his Cy Young-worthy outing a season ago, but he is still a hard-throwing righty with 215 strikeouts this year. He is not that far removed from some of his best ball, and a change of scenery may suit him, especially considering how many times his name has been in trade discussions over the last two seasons.
A pitcher-friendly park like Wrigley, coupled with a Cubs team that over-performed in 2025, would be a perfect place for Cease to continue his career and chase that world title that has eluded him.
That he would be a big part of that championship picture would only serve as a confidence boost and, perhaps, reintroduce him to the discussion surrounding the league's best starters.
It is such as strong fit, at a position of need for the Cubs, that it almost makes too much sense for Chicago to go sign him as soon as they can.
Prediction: Cease signs with the Cubs
