Victor Wembanyama Makes NBA History With Points, Blocks in Spurs' First 3 Games
Victor Wembanyama continued his hot start to the 2025-26 season on Sunday.
Wembanyama finished with 31 points and 14 rebounds to go along with six blocks during the San Antonio Spurs' 118-107 win over the Brooklyn Nets, becoming the first player in NBA history to record at least 100 points and 15 blocks through the first three games of the year.
With the win over the Nets, the Spurs improved to 3-0.
San Antonio was dominant to close out the first half of Sunday's contest, outscoring Brooklyn 18-4 over the final four minutes of the second quarter to take a 21-point lead at halftime.
The Spurs then led by as many as 26 points in the third, but the Nets stormed back and took a five-point edge early in the fourth quarter. San Antonio eventually jumped in front once again, with Wembanyama ultimately sealing the final result with an alley-oop slam.
The 21-year-old has already started to blow past the high expectations that were set upon him heading into the season, an impressive feat considering the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft looked sharp on both ends of the floor last year.
Wembanyama averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists to go along with 3.8 blocks per game during his 2024-25 campaign, shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from behind the arc.
He was a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year honors, but was limited to just 46 appearances as his season came to an early end due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
Now that Wembanyama's healthy again, it isn't difficult to imagine him making more history as the year continues.
