Knicks Sign James Wiseman, Bruce Brown to Contracts, Updated Roster Ahead of NBA Training Camp

The 2026 NBA champion New York Knicks added more depth to their roster ahead of the upcoming season.

The Knicks announced on Wednesday that they signed veteran swingman Bruce Brown, center James Wiseman and shooting guard Ochai Agbaji to training camp contracts. Per ESPN's Shams Charania, Brown, Wiseman and Agbaji join shooting guard John Konchar and center Drew Eubanks as the new signees who will be competing for one of New York's final two open roster spots.

Per Spotrac, the Knicks are $17.9 million over the tax threshold for the 2026-27 season. After signing Brown, Wiseman and Agbaji, New York's updated roster now looks like this:

ESPN's Bobby Marks reported that while New York has two open roster spots, they will only be able to keep one player if they don't make a trade. The team will be able to offer the veteran minimum of $2.4 million to whoever earns the final spot.

A one-time NBA champion with the Denver Nuggets in 2023, Brown could have the leg up on the rest of the competition. The eight-year veteran has built a reputation as a do-everything "glue guy" who can contribute in multiple ways. He played in all 82 games for the Nuggets this past season and averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals. It was the first time in the 30-year-old's career that he didn't miss a single game.

The No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Wiseman is still trying to shed the label of one of the biggest draft busts in recent memory. He most recently played for the Indiana Pacers before being released in December, and he's appeared in a combined five games over the last two seasons.

Agbaji, Konchar and Eubanks have never averaged 10 points or more in a full season in their respective NBA careers, so they will have a lot of work to do to prove they deserve a roster spot in New York.

The Knicks retained most of their championship core from last season while adding a few new faces to improve around the margins. It can be expected that the player who earns the final roster spot will be someone who shows New York he can help the team defend its first title in 53 years.
