With the win, Los Angeles was able to halt Toronto's momentum after suffering a lopsided 11-4 defeat to open the Fall Classic.
Ohtani has put together another stellar season at the plate in 2025, racking up 25 doubles and 55 home runs to go along with 102 RBI. He compiled a .282/.392/.622 slash line during the regular season as well.
The three-time MVP also made his pitching return this year after he was forced to remain a hitter throughout his 2024 campaign due to elbow surgery that he underwent in 2023.
While Ohtani only recorded 47 innings pitched across his 14 starts, he still posted a 2.87 ERA and averaged 11.9 strikeouts per nine innings.
He's stepped up during Los Angeles' current postseason run, allowing just five hits and three earned runs across 12 combined innings of work.
Ohtani is also coming off an incredible performance in Game 4 of the Dodgers' NLCS sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, tossing six scoreless innings while racking up 10 strikeouts compared to three walks. He also amassed three home runs in the contest.
As for Scherzer, he wasn't able to blow past expectations to open his first season in Toronto.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner missed just under three months early in the year due to a thumb injury and struggled after coming back, ending the regular season with a 5-5 record and 5.19 ERA across 17 starts.
Scherzer was eventually left off Toronto's ALDS roster, but returned for the ALCS and looked promising in his lone start. He gave up just two earned runs in 5.2 innings during the Blue Jays' 8-2 win over the Seattle Mariners in Game 4.
Game 3 of the 2025 World Series will begin on Monday at 8 p.m. ET.
