Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss Contract Extension Triggered After OU Win amid Florida Rumors
Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin received an automatic one-year contract extension after the No. 8 Rebels secured their seventh win of the season with a 34-26 victory over No. 13 Oklahoma on Saturday, according to USA Today's Steve Berkowitz.
Per Berkowitz, the added year is worth $9 million with $7.2 million guaranteed and keeps Kiffin under contract through 2031.
Despite the automatic extension, Kiffin's name has surfaced in recent rumors surrounding Florida's current head coaching vacancy.
He had a conversation with his players on Friday about the reports.
"That's a product of having a program with a lot of players and coaches doing a really good job," Kiffin said during a Saturday appearance on SEC Nation (h/t USA Today's Austin Curtright). "I wouldn't even mention it because they've been through it every year for probably four years in a row, but we have so many players, I just told them, 'Hey, guys, this is what happens around here because we win games and people like the style that we play in.'"
Saturday's road win was a resurgent performance from a Rebels squad looking to bounce back from a 43-35 loss to Georgia on Oct. 18.
While Ole Miss initially blew a 12-point halftime lead and trailed by one entering the fourth quarter, an eight-yard touchdown pass from Trinidad Chambliss to Trace Bruckler put the team back in front.
The Rebels eventually pushed their advantage to eight points and stopped the Sooners from potentially tying the game on their final two drives of the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Kiffin's team is now 7-1 with a 4-1 record in SEC competition, remaining directly in the hunt for a College Football Playoff berth.
