Alex Ovechkin, Capitals Legends Honored on Logan Thompson's New Goalie Mask in Photos
Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson is paying homage to some franchise legends with one of his masks for the 2025-26 NHL season.
The Caps released a close-up look on Wednesday at Thompson's new mask, the back of which features Tom Wilson's swollen face.

The illustration is based on a photo from when Wilson took deflected puck to the cheek, only to return during the same period and later score the deciding goal of a Dec. 7, 2024 road win against the Montreal Canadiens.
"If that was me, I don't know if I'd be back in the game," Thompson said of Wilson at the time.
Thompson also honored two legendary Capitals goaltenders on the sides of his mask in Olaf Kölzig, who led the Capitals to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998, and Braden Holtby, who was in net for the franchise's first championship in 2018.
Peter Bondra, who joined Kölzig in leading the Caps to the 1998 Finals and ranks second for the franchise's all-time scoring lead only to Alex Ovechkin, is also represented.
Thompson's mask also celebrates three other members of the Caps' 2018 championship team in Nicklas Backstrom, who last played in the NHL during the 2023-24 season and signed an SHL contract in July, as well as two of his current teammates in John Carlson and Alex Ovechkin.
Carlson is skating as a first-pairing defenseman in his 17th season with the Caps, while Ovechkin is working on extending his all-time goalscoring record after passing Wayne Gretzky last season.
Thompson has so far posted a 3-1-0 record in his second season as the Caps' go-to starter. He has debuted multiple other masks this season, including a bucket with the numbers of most Capitals defenseman painted on the back and one themed around the 2009 movie Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.
His masks are painted by Dave Fried of Friedesigns, who also works with other NHL goaltenders including the Los Angeles Kings' Anton Forsberg and the Calgary Flames' Ivan Prosvetov.
