NBA teams are permitted 15 standard roster spots and three two-way player contracts. It's typical for some teams to keep their final roster spot open to maintain some flexibility.
Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reported on Sunday that the teams carrying 14 or less players on standard contracts include the Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors.
While flexibility is the key, multiple teams won't have that luxury because of being pressed up against a hard cap. The Warriors, Rockets, Clippers, Lakers, Knicks and Magic all won't be able to add a 15th player to their rosters without shedding salary.
The 2025-26 season is set to be wide open with multiple title contenders emerging, so it will be fun to watch how teams handle their open roster spots as they chase an NBA championship.
