Texas A&M's Elko Jokes About Penn State HC Opening, '3 Weeks Ago I Was Getting Fired'
Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko, who has been linked to the Penn State head coach opening, offered his thoughts on the way coach hirings are covered during his press conference on Monday.
Elko joked about the reality coaches face throughout the season, from being on the hot seat to being a candidate for top jobs.
"I don't discuss it with my players. I think it's absolutely hilarious how (the media) covers coaches," Elko said. "I think three weeks ago, I was getting fired; now, I'm getting hired... It's absolute hilarious. It is a waste of brain space to spend any time talking or thinking about any of that stupidity."
Every coach in college football, and especially those at top programs, are going to face criticism at some point in their careers and will most likely have their job security questioned by fans and media. On the flip side, many coaches have to deal with keeping their team focused while having their names in the mix as candidates for other jobs.
Elko, who is in his second season with the Aggies, is hoping to keep his players locked in on the season ahead, rather than wondering about their coach bolting for Penn State.
No. 3 Texas A&M is 7-0 after avoiding an upset against Arkansas last week, and the Aggies will try to stay undefeated against No. 20 LSU this weekend.
