Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, Jadarian Price Hyped by CFB Fans in Win Over USC
Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love led a ferocious Fighting Irish ground game by amassing 228 rushing yards and one touchdown on 24 carries in a 34-24 home win over No. 20 USC.
Running back Jadarian Price added 87 rushing yards and two more scores (one from a 16-yard rush, the other via a 100-yard kick return) for the No. 13 Fighting Irish, which has now won five straight games after an 0-2 start. Notre Dame has also averaged 39.1 points per game for the season.
Down 7-0 in the first quarter, Love got Notre Dame on the board. He escaped for a 63-yard rush before later adding a 12-yard run to help tie the game at seven.
USC responded with a field goal, but Price sliced through the Trojan defense for 16 yards early in the second quarter to give Notre Dame the edge.
USC kept in this game, though, and took the lead in the fourth quarter after Ja'Kobi Lane's 59-yard touchdown catch. The ensuing two-point conversion put USC up 24-21.
Price immediately responded with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, though, putting Notre Dame in the lead for good.
USC then drove the ball down the field and had 1st-and-10 on the Notre Dame 37-yard line. However, a trick play went horribly wrong, and Makai Lemon fumbled the ball, which was recovered by Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa. The fumble served as one of USC's four turnovers.
Notre Dame then went on a seven-play, 50-yard drive capped by quarterback CJ Carr's one-yard touchdown run.
Afterward, there were some fireworks between the two bitter rivals.
The run game took center stage given (a) the strength of the Love-led attack and (b) the pouring rain drenching Notre Dame Stadium. Love entered the evening with 690 total yards and 11 touchdowns but is now up to 955 yards and 12 scores (he also caught five passes for 37 yards on Saturday).
He's also now moving up the Heisman list, and DraftKings Sportsbook places him seventh on the odds ledger at 20-1.
Naturally, Love received great acclaim after his fantastic effort.
Price also received praise from fans:
From a team perspective, Notre Dame entered this week as the No. 13 ranked squad in the Associated Press poll, but the Fighting Irish could potentially be moving up a few spots after No. 10 LSU lost at No. 17 Vanderbilt 31-24, No. 7 Texas Tech lost 26-22 at unranked Arizona State and No. 11 Tennessee lost 37-20 to No. 6 Alabama.
Naturally, that's a good sign in the 12-team College Football Playoff era. Notre Dame also finishes the regular season playing against five unranked teams, although one of those squads, Navy, is off to a 6-0 start.
That game will occur on Nov. 8. Until then, Notre Dame has a bye week up next before the team visits Boston College on Nov. 1.
