Andrew PetersOct 18, 2025

Oklahoma is back on track after last week's loss to Texas in the Red River Rivalry.

The No. 14 Sooners trounced South Carolina 26-7 to improve to 6-1 on the year and 2-1 in SEC play.

Quarterback John Mateer led the way for Oklahoma behind 150 passing yards and a touchdown, and running back Tory Blaylock put together a strong performance with 101 rushing yards and a score.

The Gamecocks offense struggled against a dominant Sooners defense. LaNorris Sellers had just 124 passing yards and a touchdown on 17-of-25 passing. The game marked the fourth contest this season in which Oklahoma has given up seven or fewer points.

After the win, fans praised Mateer and Oklahoma for responding well to a rough loss last week.

After losing to Texas 23-6, there were questions about whether Oklahoma was a legitimate College Football Playoff contender. The Sooners didn't exactly answer those questions on Saturday, but they avoided an upset that would have crushed their CFP hopes.

Oklahoma will be put to the ultimate test over the next few weeks. The Sooners will face No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 6 Alabama, No. 16 Missouri and No. 10 LSU to close out the season.
