Kristaps Porzingis, Hawks Reportedly Interested in New Contract amid Trae Young Buzz
The Atlanta Hawks and new forward Kristaps Porziņģis are both interested in reaching an agreement on a contract extension, according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst.
Per Windhorst, both the Hawks and Porziņģis are "comfortable seeing how the season progresses" before finalizing an agreement since he's eligible to sign an extension anytime before June 30.
Hawks star point guard Trae Young also faces the same timeline for a potential extension, although he reportedly won't receive one before the 2025-26 season commences.

Young has a $49 million player option for his 2026-27 campaign that he'd "prefer not to pick up and instead replace with a lucrative new deal," per Windhorst.
As for Porziņģis, he's entering his first season as a member of the Hawks after they acquired him in a June 24 trade with the Boston Celtics that also included the Brooklyn Nets.
The 30-year-old's ability to space the floor and protect the paint has helped him operate in a key role on multiple playoff teams throughout his career, including the Celtics' run to an NBA Finals victory in 2024.
Porziņģis is coming off a 2024-25 campaign in which he averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game on 48.3/41.2/80.9 shooting splits.
His health could cause the Hawks to hesitate in extension discussions, as he's only crossed 60 games played in one of his past six seasons. Porziņģis was limited to just 42 starts last year as he dealt with an illness throughout the second half of the regular season.
He confirmed that he's fully recovered ahead of his first year in Atlanta, though.
As things currently stand, Porziņģis will earn $30.7 million for the 2025-26 season before hitting free agency in 2026.
The Hawks will open the regular season against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday.
