Bill Belichick Reportedly Was Concerned Series Would Prioritize Jordon Hudson Over UNC
North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick had reservations about the focus of Hulu's planned documentary about the Tar Heels football team, according to People's Natasha Dye.
Dye reported Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson didn't sign their releases, which caused the project to get scrapped.
A source told Dye that Belichick "was enthusiastic to give unprecedented access to the program" but seemed to have reservations because "Hulu wanted to dive deep into his home life."
Another source asserted that Hulu "wanted Keeping Up with the Belichicks, but that was never for sale."
UNC's official account shared a video of Belichick revealing the Hulu docuseries to his team in August.
"It's gonna feature the players working hard, which you guys do," he said. "It's about the players improving and getting better through their hard work, which you do. And a program starting from where it started from several months ago to wherever it's gonna go during the course of the season, which, of course, will be determined on the field."
Given all of the offseason intrigue, a lot of fans would be hoping to see some portion of the documentary devoted to Belichick and Hudson's relationship. It would've been difficult for the Hulu producers to pretend that isn't a general storyline surrounding the program.
The other problem is that the series Hulu and UNC originally envisioned quickly became a lot different, even if the camera was focused entirely on what's happening with the team.
The Tar Heels are 2-3 and have one of the worst offenses in the country. They've been a mess on the field, and multiple reports laid out how the learning curve for Belichick and UNC general manager Michael Lombardi was even steeper than expected.
A little over a month into the season Belichick and athletic director Bubba Cunningham felt the need to reassure everyone they're fully committed to one another.
Unless their results improve, an even-handed portrait of North Carolina football that totally set Belichick's relationship with Hudson aside wouldn't exactly be flattering to the Tar Heels.
The irony is that UNC has only become a more newsworthy topic because of how poorly the "Chapel Bill" era has started. A lot of college football fans would've loved to be a fly on the wall behind the scenes.
