Cam Newton became the fourth player in Auburn history to have his number officially retired on Saturday night.
Newton's No. 2 jersey was retired at Jordan-Hare Stadium during a game against Georgia.
Newton is the fourth player to have his number retired by Auburn following Pat Sullivan (No. 7), Bo Jackson (No. 34) and Terry Beasley (No. 88).
Prior to the ceremony, Newton was spotted hyping up both Auburn students and players ahead of the Georgia matchup.
The former Tigers quarterback expressed his appreciation for Auburn in a press conference ahead of Saturday night's game against Georgia.
"I gave Auburn 365 days of enjoyment, but Auburn gave me a lifetime of appreciation," Newton said. "Sounds like a fair deal to me."
Newton recorded one of the most prolific seasons by any player in college history during his single campaign for Auburn in 2010.
The quarterback won the Heisman Trophy after becoming the first player in SEC history to eclipse 2,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season.
He racked up 51 total touchdowns while leading the Tigers to a 14-0 record, including an SEC Championship and a BCS National Championship.
Newton later joined the Carolina Panthers as the top pick of the 2011 NFL draft. He went on to play 11 seasons in the NFL, where he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and league MVP in 2015. He last played in the NFL in 2021.
The former quarterback, who has been eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame since 2021, made his first appearance on the ballot in June as a potential member of the 2026 class.
