CFB Playoff Picture, Standings and Bracket Predictions After Week 7 of 2025-26 Season

Joe TanseyOct 11, 2025

The Indiana Hoosiers authored the latest surprise of the 2025 college football season with their road win over the Oregon Ducks.

Indiana's win in Eugene confirmed its position as one of the top College Football Playoff contenders.

Oregon's playoff hopes aren't completely dashed in the 12-team format, but it is not in the elite tier of programs it sat in after its own signature road win over the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Texas Longhorns also found themselves in the Week 7 headlines with their Red River Rivalry upset of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma, like Oregon, can still make the playoff, but it faces a far more difficult path to the playoffs with mostly ranked teams left on its schedule.

Indiana Upsets Oregon, Now No. 2 Team in Big Ten

Indiana confirmed itself as the No. 2 team in the Big Ten with its road upset of Oregon.

The Hoosiers could easily jump to as high as No. 3 in the polls on Sunday behind the Ohio State Buckeyes and Miami Hurricanes.

Indiana will obviously jump Oklahoma and Oregon, but it also has a strong case to leapfrog the Ole Miss Rebels, who barely beat the Washington State Cougars at home on Saturday.

The win over Oregon pushed the Hoosiers to 6-0, and there's a good chance they'll remain undefeated going into the Big Ten Championship Game.

Indiana doesn't play Ohio State in the regular season and its November 8 trip to Penn State looks far less treacherous after the Nittany Lions' three-game losing streak.

If Miami stumbles at any point, the Big Ten Championship Game could pit a top-ranked Ohio State versus No. 2 Indiana, but that's something to worry about down the road.

As for Oregon, it also doesn't play Ohio State in the regular season and could finish 11-1. That would be good enough to get the Ducks into the 12-team playoff field, but likely as a lower seed than Ohio State and Indiana.

Oklahoma Falls to Arch Manning, Texas

Oklahoma v Texas

Oklahoma's dream start ended at the hands of Arch Manning and Texas.

The Longhorns held the Sooners to six points and used a few key special teams plays to win the Red River Rivalry game.

Oklahoma's offense didn't look great in John Mateer's first game back from his hand injury. The Sooners managed to earn 258 total yards, but they went 6-for-17 on third downs and Mateer was picked off three times.

Saturday's game marked the start of an incredibly difficult second half of the regular season for the Sooners.

Oklahoma has five Top 25 teams remaining on its schedule, plus the South Carolina Gamecocks, who were a preseason top 15 team.

The Sooners can get into the playoff as a two-loss team, or even a three-loss team depending on the nature of their defeats.

A path to the playoff is certainly still there, but Oklahoma's path back to the top is more challenging than Oregon's.
