Dan Lanning Reaffirms Commitment to Oregon, 'I Don't Want Any Other Jobs'

Adam WellsOct 10, 2025

Despite being discussed as a candidate for other coaching jobs in recent years, Dan Lanning is very happy with his current setup at Oregon.

Speaking to Chris Low of On3.com, Lanning reaffirmed his commitment to Oregon by saying he has "been very clear and adamant that I'm not going anywhere" and "I don't want any other jobs."

There was talk after Nick Saban retired in January 2024 that Lanning, who was a graduate assistant for Alabama in 2015, could be his replacement at head coach.

Lanning hinted to The Athletic's Christopher Kamrani in May 2024 that Alabama officials never approached him about the job because everyone knew he would have turned it down.

"When you're in a situation where your answer is already going to be no, people don't ask you those questions," said Lanning.

In the midst of leading Oregon to a perfect regular season and a Big Ten championship last season, Lanning's name popped up as one of potential interest to NFL teams during the offseason hiring cycle.

Lanning once again left no doubt that he is fully committed to the Ducks when the subject came up.

"(Coaching in the NFL) used to be a goal of mine," Lanning said on The Zach Gelb Show in December (h/t Cory Pappas of SI.com). "At this point, everybody can realize that I'm not going anywhere."

There aren't many college coaches who have it better than Lanning right now. He just signed a six-year extension with Oregon in May that increased his average annual salary to $11 million through the 2030 season.

The Ducks are also believed to be one of the highest-spending programs in the country to build a roster capable of competing for a national title. The results have paid off with 18 wins in 19 games since the start of the 2024 season and a 40-6 overall record since Lanning took over in December 2021.
