Texas Tech Reveals 'Modernized' Double T, More Logos in Video, Photos

Joseph ZuckerOct 7, 2025

Texas Tech updated its new branding and unveiled a "modernized Double T logo," which will go into effect with the start of the 2026-27 year.

Gone is the beveling in the school's primary design, with the Double T now being a monochrome black or white:

Secondary logos have been altered as well to look a little streamlined. The Masked Rider, for example, features more detail and piping:

"The Double T represents one of the most recognizable logos in all of collegiate athletics and a point of pride for all Red Raiders," athletic director Kirby Hocutt said. "As we celebrate Homecoming this weekend and welcome back thousands of alumni to campus, this is the perfect opportunity to unveil our new branding that will resonate with our history and define Texas Tech Athletics for future generations of Red Raiders. This multi-year project will propel our athletics brand further into this new era of college athletics where Texas Tech will continue to lead at a national level."

Rebrands, even ones that are relatively minor, don't always go down well with fans. In the case of Texas Tech, a lot of Red Raiders followers called to "level the bevel" for a while, though.

As much as the Double T is synonymous with the athletic program, the specific design details weren't held sacred. The beveled Double T doesn't go back that far, either. It was only introduced in 1999 after Texas Tech's primary logo looked a lot like what they just rolled out.

Granted, the bevel will forever be linked with the Mike Leach era and Patrick Mahomes' three years with the Red Raiders. The men's basketball team reached its first-ever Final Four in 2019 as well, while the baseball team advanced to the College World Series in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.

The bevel may not be beloved, but it's attached to plenty of sporting achievements for Texas Tech.
