Did Mack Brown Troll Bill Belichick with Drake Maye Tweet amid UNC-Patriots Rumors?
Former UNC head coach Mack Brown took to social media to praise New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye for his upset win over the Buffalo Bills, but his post may have had a double meaning.
Brown, who coached Maye with the Tar Heels, tweeted a wholesome message to his former signal-caller:
However, Brown's post could also serve as a troll job to current UNC head coach Bill Belichick, as Ross Martin of 247Sports reported just an hour before his tweet was posted that Belichick has directed the program to not promote anything Patriots-related on its social media. UNC's football account was inconspicuously quiet during Maye's impressive performance in front of a primetime audience on Sunday Night Football, though it later tweeted a single highlight from the game on Monday morning.
Maye threw for 273 yards on 22-of-30 passing to help lead the Patriots to a 23-20 victory. New England (3-2) handed Buffalo (4-1) its first loss of the season thanks to a game-winning 52-yard field goal by Andy Borregales with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, Belichick and the Tar Heels fell to 2-3 on Saturday with a 38-10 loss to Clemson. While the 73-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time, his first try at coaching college football hasn't gone very well, and it's Brown who's getting the last laugh.
UNC will try to regroup during its bye week before returning to action against Cal (4-2) on Oct. 17.
